Pablo Neruda was a great reader and a fine bibliophile. He bought a large number of books and gave him many others. At the time of his death, his books were scattered in three houses, Santiago, Valparaiso and Isla Negra mainly. With these volumes the Pablo Neruda Foundation formed the personal collection of the Library. To this one  was added a section that brings together different editions and translations of Neruda's work, as well as the major biographical and literary studies of the poet.

At the University of Chile is preserved the first library the the poet gave to this university in 1954.

The Library and the Archives of Neruda, belonging to the Foundation, are installed on a property adjacent to the Museum House La Chascona.

The personal library - considering that many of his books are old, rare, curious or valuable - is reserved only for use by qualified investigators. Those wishing to access it must apply in writing to the director of the Library.

The specialized section is available for all public and can be consult in the reading room.

The document file is stored in a vault and is projected replication by scanning or microfilming to facilitate the use.
